Vacherin Mont D'or

This is a special time of year for cheese lovers as its when the delicious Vacherin Mont D'or is made available.
From November to March (approximately, it varies every season) we stock the seasons best Vacherin Mont D'or fresh from France. This seasons' batch has been particularly scrumptious, full bodied and creamy with a slight floral undertone...
Vacherin Mont D'or originates from the villages of the Jura region, an area that resides in both France and Switzerland, and is made between August 15th and March 15th and is brought to our shelves 2 to 3 months later.
As a cheese is can be eaten at room temperature but is more commonly served heated (in the oven for about 15 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius) in its box, or to spruce things up a little pour a cup of dry white wine over the cheese and bake for 15 minutes. It can be served with blanched vegetables, boiled potatoes or even with our delicious bread.
It perfect for dinner parties as an entree, main or dessert
Come in now and try this incredible cheese!

Baguette anyone?

Whether it be a ripe piece of Brie de Meaux, a succulent Roquefort or a good chunk of our Comte Grand Reserve it is vital to have a fresh mouth watering baguette to go with it. Fortunately for you we have just what you need.
Our bakers, Boulangerie de Paris, are committed to produce wholesome and traditional bread. Using a wood fired oven (the only one of its kind in the UK), stoneground unbleached flours and traditional methods they have produced a menu ranging from Baguettes to Sourdough loaves and even Brioche (the best I've ever had).
We get their delicious bread fresh/par-baked every morning and we cook it throughout the day to ensure the freshest cooked bread possible.

Domaines and Terroirs

For those of us in the 'food' industry Domaines and Terroirs (provenance and soil) are very important. Whether it be Cheese, Wine, Tea or Chocolate the quality of the product will often stem back to region and soils in which it came from. For cheese the link is very important to recognise. A Camembert made outside of Normandie, for example, won't have the rich, full bodied flavours if it weren't for the great care taken not only to the animals but to the grass they eat and the soil they live on.
Debbi Barron, one of our La Cave experts, has created tours which will take you through various 'Domaines' of France. Exploring the best of not only the Cheeses and Wines that each region has to offer but also an unforgettably journey through the beautiful gastronomical, historical and visual feasts France is known for.

The Queen of Tea at La Cave

The Rare Tea company comes to visit La Cave next Thursday for a 'rare' (excuse the pun) but exciting culinary joining of beautiful teas and our artisan cheeses.
The Queen of Tea herself, Henrietta Lovell, will be here to take us on a journey through her world of extraordinary teas. The rare tea company became a reality in 2004 and has grown to include customers like The Fat Duck, Soho Hotel and Selfridges. No shirker of adventure and high jinx, together with small artisan producers she has travelled to India, darkest Africa and the Fu Jain mountains of south east China in her quest to bring the finest, most delicate teas to England.
Tea Lady by the tea lady.

Chef Raymond Blanc visits La Cave a Fromage!

We recently had the pleasure of hosting a Cheese and Wine evening with the renowned Chef Raymond Blanc. Best known for his Michelin starred restaurant "Le Manoir aus Quat 'Saisons" and his chain of brasseries, 'Brasserie Blanc', of which there are 8 in the UK.
Mr Blanc is currently in the process of filming his next BBC series and was kind enough to choose our shop for the part relating to cheese. It was a delight to meet him and be a part of the whole process. Keep an eye out for us in his upcoming series!! We will let you know when we have a 'go to air' date.
